Yes-or-No Psychic Questions

The Trouble With Yes-or-No Questions

Yes-or-no questions feel like the most direct way to ask something, but they’re often the least useful, because they flatten a genuinely complicated situation into a single word. “Will he come back?” and “Should I quit?” ask for a verdict, when what you probably need is an understanding of the situation itself. A binary question also forces a reader to guess at how much certainty you’re actually looking for, which is a strange position to put someone in when you want an honest answer.

That doesn’t mean yes-or-no questions are off-limits here — sometimes you genuinely do just want a clear direction. It means they work far better when you frame the decision clearly first, so a yes or no actually means something.

How to Frame a Yes-or-No Question So It Works

Instead of asking a bare yes-or-no, describe the fork in the road, then ask for a direction. “I’m deciding between staying in my current city or moving for a relationship — given everything, does moving feel like the right direction?” gives a reader an actual decision to weigh in on, rather than an outcome to predict.

20 Example Questions to Try

  • Given how things have been between us, is reaching out to my ex the right move?
  • Should I take the new job offer, considering the pay cut involved?
  • Is this the right time to move in with my partner?
  • Should I confront my friend about the tension I’ve been feeling between us?
  • Is staying in my current role the right call for the next year?
  • Should I trust the new person I’ve started seeing?
  • Is it the right time to start trying to have a child?
  • Should I go ahead with the move to a new city?
  • Is it worth pursuing the side business idea I’ve been sitting on?
  • Should I set a firm boundary with my parents about this issue?
  • Is this friendship worth repairing, or has it run its course?
  • Should I take the financial risk of investing in this opportunity?
  • Is it the right decision to end this relationship now rather than waiting?
  • Should I go back to school for the career change I’ve been considering?
  • Is it time to let go of a grudge I’ve been carrying?
  • Should I tell my partner about something I’ve been holding back?
  • Is this the right season to focus on myself instead of dating?
  • Should I take the leap and go freelance?
  • Is it worth reconnecting with a family member I’ve drifted from?
  • Should I trust my gut feeling about this decision, even without clear proof?

What a Good Answer Looks Like

Even for a yes-or-no question, a useful answer rarely stops at the word itself. A good reading will explain the reasoning behind the direction given — what in your situation points that way, and what to watch for either way the decision goes — so you leave with understanding, not just an instruction.

Who Answers These

Yes-or-no questions don’t belong to one specialty, so they’re most often taken by Callum Reyes, our General Psychic & Intuitive Reader, unless the subject clearly fits one of the other four specialties — a yes-or-no love question, for instance, would still go to Adrienne.
